The only people likely to be disappointed will be those who bother to wonder how good 50 First Dates could have been.. The family-dramedy genre that the film inhabits demands a bit more narrative ingenuity than is on display.. I'd like to take back all those times I said Nicolas Cage was one of the most annoying actors on film. It turns out he's equally terrible when he's only on the soundtrack.. The gags are all of a piece, right up to the forlorn yet enchanting finale.. Even the lively visuals...
